The ongoing Lok Sabha Elections 2024 has revealed some concerning statistics. Out of the total 8,360 candidates contesting, 1,644 have criminal cases against them, according to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). Among these, 1,188 candidates face serious charges like murder, attempt to murder, crimes against women, and hate speech.
Key Highlights:
First Phase: 252 out of 1,618 candidates have criminal cases; 161 with serious charges.
Second Phase: 250 out of 1,192 candidates have criminal cases; 167 with serious charges.
Third Phase: 244 out of 1,352 candidates have criminal cases; 172 with serious charges.
Fourth Phase: 360 out of 1,710 candidates have criminal cases; 274 with serious charges.
Fifth Phase: 159 out of 695 candidates have criminal cases; 122 with serious charges.
Sixth Phase: 180 out of 866 candidates have criminal cases; 141 with serious charges.
Seventh Phase: 199 out of 904 candidates have criminal cases; 151 with serious charges.
The elections are being held in phases, with the sixth phase on May 25 and the final phase on June 1. Results will be announced on June 4.
