Healthy ageing for women is not simply about looking younger it is about maintaining strength, mobility, emotional well-being and the ability to live independently as the years progress.

Health experts speaking at a women’s wellness discussion in Kochi stressed that functional fitness should take priority over appearance. Being able to remain active, climb stairs, travel and spend time with family in later life may be a more meaningful measure of ageing well than trying to look decades younger. (@theweek)
Severe Menstrual Pain Should Not Be Ignored
Experts cautioned against normalising intense menstrual pain.
While some discomfort may occur during periods, pain that prevents a woman from attending school, going to work or carrying out daily activities should be medically evaluated. Abnormal bleeding, irregular cycles and symptoms associated with PCOS should also not be kept private or dismissed as routine. (@theweek)
Weight Gain After 40 Is Not Always Inevitable
Many women assume that gaining weight after 40 is unavoidable. However, experts said persistent weight gain despite regular exercise and dietary control could indicate an underlying medical issue or an ineffective diet and workout routine.
Hormonal fluctuations during perimenopause and menopause may also contribute to changes in weight, mood and physical health. Any hormone-based treatment, including hormone replacement therapy, should be considered only after proper medical assessment.
Do Not Take Supplements Without Testing
The panel also warned against taking vitamins and dietary supplements based only on social-media advice.
Women were advised to consult a qualified doctor and undergo appropriate blood tests before beginning supplements. A deficiency may sometimes be linked not only to low levels of a particular nutrient but also to poor absorption or related deficiencies that require broader evaluation.
Seek Professional Help for Serious Symptoms
Traditional food practices may support general wellness, but doctors advised women not to rely on home remedies for serious concerns such as abnormal menstrual bleeding, persistent pain or major hormonal symptoms.
The wider message was that ageing affects physical, psychological, social and emotional health. Early evaluation, informed lifestyle choices and acceptance of natural changes can help women age with greater confidence and independence.
