ODI World Cup 2023, Ind vs NZ: Rohit Sharma heaped praises on Virat Kohli for his match-winning knock of 95 runs in what was another successful run chase. India have now won five consecutive matches and have become the table toppers.🏆 🏏

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was out of words when he was asked to speak about Virat Kohli’s match-winning knock of 95 runs against New Zealand in Dharamshala on Sunday. Rohit revealed that the team was expecting him to lead the team toward victory. The two-time world champions Indian cricket team defeated New Zealand in an ICC event for the first time in 20 years.
Virat Kohli failed to score his record-equalling 49th ODI hundred, which would have helped him surpass Sachin Tendulkar in scoring the most number of centuries in this format but his brilliant knock of 95 runs helped the team remain undefeated in the ongoing tournament. It was a tough surface to bat on and that too against a world-class bowling attack of New Zealand, it was Virat Kohli who stayed almost till the end after skipper Rohit Sharma gave the team the much-needed start on a cold evening in Dharamshala.
Virat Kohli, who scored his 48th ODI century in their previous match against Bangladesh in Pune last week, was inching towards scoring his 49th ton. But he was dismissed at 95 as he tried to smash the winning runs after the required runs came down to single-digit. Kohli attempted to play a pull shot on Matt Henry’s short ball but he mistimed the shot and was dismissed in the 48th over.
Ravindra Jadeja, who scored a quick knock of 34 runs off 44 balls while batting for the first time in this tournament, had scored the winning runs.“Nothing much to say about Virat. We’ve seen him do this for so many years. He backs himself to do the job. Towards the end, there was a bit of pressure with a few wickets lost, but Kohli and Jadeja took us home,” Rohit told reporters in the post-match press conference. This was Virat Kohli’s 48th half-century in the 50-over format. He has scored 23 ODI centuries in successful run chases and it is nine more than Sachin Tendulkar’s record.
Kohli also surpassed Rohit Sharma to become the leading run-scorer of the ongoing tournament as he has now scored 354 runs after playing in five matches.🏆 🏏
