US Consulate road closure slows traffic across Hyderabad Financial District

Traffic across Hyderabad’s Financial District is slowing down after the road in front of the US Consulate was closed due to heightened security concerns.


Cyberabad police imposed the restrictions following rising tensions in West Asia after the February 28 US–Israel strikes on Iran. The move is aimed at strengthening security around the diplomatic mission.


By Tuesday morning, the ripple effects were already visible on the ground.


Diversions are pushing thousands of vehicles onto the already crowded stretch between Gowlidoddi and Wipro Circle, one of the busiest corridors in the IT hub. Officials say the corridor typically handles around 50,000 to 60,000 vehicles during peak hours, while the Wipro junction alone sees up to 90,000 vehicles every morning.


In simple terms: one security decision has reshaped traffic patterns in Hyderabad’s tech district.


With visitors now required to be dropped about 200 metres away from the Consulate gate, an estimated 2,000 additional vehicles are being funneled through Wipro Circle Road.
