South Korea Faces Unusual April Heatwave With Temperatures 6°C Above Normal

South Korea is witnessing an unseasonably warm heatwave, with temperatures soaring up to 27°C (80.6°F) in mid-April around 6°C higher than the usual seasonal average.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the spike is being driven by a strong high-pressure system combined with warm southeasterly winds. The result? Weather conditions that feel more like early summer than spring.

While daytime temperatures are unusually high, the situation is made more intense by low humidity levels, leading to sharp temperature swings of up to 15°C between day and night. This fluctuation is causing discomfort for residents and raising concerns about health and energy usage.

Experts say that although such warm spells have occurred before, this one is lasting longer than usual. However, there’s some relief in sight, with temperatures expected to return to normal seasonal levels by April 17.

The event highlights growing concerns about climate variability and unpredictable weather patterns across the region.
