Around 5.97 lakh applications for the certificate have reportedly been filed across Telangana. Of these, about 3.15 lakh have been approved, while around 2,100 applications have been rejected and the rest remain pending.

What Is a Family Register Certificate?

The Telangana Family Register Certificate is a single document containing details of an entire family.

It includes:

  • Family Register Identification Number

  • Name of the family head

  • Names of family members

  • Relationship between members

  • Age and date of birth

  • Gender

  • Aadhaar number

  • Present address

The register is based on the Food Security Card/ration-card database maintained by the Civil Supplies Department. The concerned mandal tehsildar is responsible for issuing the certificate.

Why Are People Applying Now?

SIR notices in Telangana are scheduled to begin from August 17.

The notices will primarily go to voters classified as unmapped voters or those whose electoral data contains anomalies. The Family Register Certificate is among the documents that can be used in certain cases to establish identity, family relationships and other required details.

Different Documents Depending on Age

The documentation requirements can vary depending on when a voter was born.

Those born before July 1, 1987 may need to provide one of the prescribed documents for themselves.

Those born between July 1, 1987 and December 2, 2004 may need documentation for themselves and either parent.

Those born after December 2, 2004 may need documentation for themselves as well as both parents.

What About Data Anomalies?

A separate category covers voters who submitted their 2002 SIR details but whose information was found to contain discrepancies during verification.

In such cases, voters may be required to establish their relationship with the person whose details were used for electoral mapping.

The exact documents accepted can depend on the type of notice and the stage of the SIR process.
