Shehzad Poonawalla has reportedly resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party after serving as one of its national spokespersons.

According to the report, Poonawalla submitted his resignation to the BJP’s senior leadership and cited personal reasons for his decision. However, neither Poonawalla nor the party had issued an official public statement at the time of publication.
BJP Reference Removed From X Bio
The political shift became visible after Poonawalla updated his profile on X.
His revised bio no longer mentions the BJP or his position as its national spokesperson. Despite removing the party reference, he continues to describe himself as a lifelong follower of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
No Public Explanation Yet
Poonawalla reportedly changed his bio on Thursday but did not publicly explain why he was stepping away from the party.
The reported reference to personal reasons leaves several questions unanswered, including whether his resignation is linked to internal political developments or a decision to withdraw from active party responsibilities.
Until a formal statement is released, speculation about the reasons behind his departure should be treated cautiously.
Joined BJP After Leaving Congress
Poonawalla joined the BJP after his fallout with the Congress in 2017.
He had questioned the Congress presidential election process and later became a prominent BJP spokesperson, regularly appearing in television debates and defending the Modi government’s policies.
Known for Aggressive Political Debates
During his time with the BJP, Poonawalla became known for his combative television appearances and sharp criticism of Opposition leaders, particularly Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
His departure is therefore significant because he had become one of the party’s most visible media representatives.
What Happens Next?
It remains unclear whether Poonawalla plans to join another political organisation, continue as an independent commentator or take a temporary break from active politics.
For now, the biggest confirmation may come through an official statement from either Poonawalla or the BJP leadership.
