Ranbir’s Lord Ram Looks Weak? Ramlila Body Warns of Protests

Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming Ramayana has landed in controversy months before its Diwali 2026 release.

Shri Ramlila Mahasangh has written to the makers demanding a special pre-release screening for Ramlila committees and Hindu organisations in Delhi, saying it wants to ensure that the film does not contain scenes or dialogues that could hurt religious sentiments.

Ramlila Body Questions Ranbir’s Look

Arjun Kumar, president of Shri Ramlila Mahasangh, criticised Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Lord Ram after watching the recently released trailer.

He said Ranbir’s portrayal appeared “weak” and lacked the gravitas traditionally associated with the character. The organisation also said it was willing to support and promote the film if its concerns were addressed.

Adipurush Comparison Returns

The group referred to the controversy around Adipurush, arguing that its depiction of Lanka and some characters did not align with traditional beliefs.

According to the Mahasangh, it wants Ramayana’s makers to avoid similar creative choices that could trigger backlash among religious groups.

Pre-Release Screening Demanded

The organisation has asked the filmmakers to arrange a screening for representatives of Ramlila committees and Hindu organisations before the film reaches theatres.

It said that if concerns emerge during such a screening, the makers should consider making changes before release.

The Mahasangh acknowledged that it is not a film-certification authority, but said it would raise objections if it believed the film distorted religious scriptures.

Protests Threatened

The group also warned that protests and demonstrations could be organised outside cinema halls in Delhi and other states if the filmmakers do not agree to its request and the final film is considered objectionable.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is planned as a two-part epic.

Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi stars as Sita, Yash plays Ravana and Sunny Deol appears as Hanuman.

The first part is scheduled for a Diwali 2026 theatrical release, while the second instalment is expected in 2027.
