Property Dispute Turns Violent in Hyderabad

A long-running family property dispute allegedly turned into a violent attack in Hyderabad after a 33-year-old woman was accused of attempting to kill her mother-in-law with a kitchen knife.
The incident took place on July 21 at a house in Erukala Basti, Chilkalguda, Secunderabad. Police identified the accused as D Vijayalakshmi and the injured woman as 57-year-old Devarai Padmavathi.
Mother-in-Law Allegedly Dragged by Hair
According to police, Padmavathi was alone on the first floor of the house when Vijayalakshmi allegedly entered carrying a kitchen knife.
Investigators alleged that the accused grabbed her mother-in-law by the hair, dragged her inside and attacked her repeatedly. Padmavathi reportedly suffered serious injuries to her neck and fingers.
Neighbours Rush to Her Rescue
Hearing Padmavathi’s screams, neighbours rushed into the house and overpowered the accused.
The injured woman was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for emergency treatment. Police later said she was in a stable condition.
Attack Captured on CCTV
The incident was reportedly captured by CCTV cameras installed at the residence.
Footage circulating online appears to show the woman dragging her mother-in-law through a corridor before taking her into another room.
Property Dispute Suspected as Motive
Police said the two women had been involved in a prolonged dispute over the ownership of the family house.
Investigators believe the unresolved property conflict may have triggered the alleged attack, though the case remains under investigation.
Accused Sent to Judicial Custody
Chilkalguda Police registered a case, inspected the crime scene, collected forensic evidence and seized the knife allegedly used in the assault.
Vijayalakshmi was arrested on July 22, produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway.
The incident is another reminder that family and property disputes must be handled through dialogue and legal channels before unresolved tensions escalate into violence.
