Actor Prakash Raj has sparked a fresh debate over Karnataka’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls after claiming that his name had been removed from Bengaluru’s voter list.

But election officials have now clarified that his name was not simply deleted. Instead, his electoral record was marked as “Shifted” after verification found that he was no longer living at his registered address in Bengaluru.

Prakash Raj Raises Alarm

The controversy began after Prakash Raj posted a video on social media questioning why his name had disappeared from the voter list during the SIR exercise.

His claim quickly attracted attention online, adding to the wider debate surrounding voter verification in Karnataka.

What Officials Say Happened

According to Bengaluru election officials, Prakash Raj’s name was present in Part No. 1 of the Shantinagar Assembly constituency at serial number 970 when the electoral roll was frozen for SIR activities on June 16, 2026.

A Booth Level Officer later visited his registered address at Garden Apartments on Vittal Mallya Road as part of door-to-door verification.

Officials said the apartment owner informed them that Prakash Raj had not been living there for around four years and that another tenant currently occupied the flat.

Neighbours and the apartment manager were also contacted during the verification.

Why His Status Was Marked “Shifted”

Based on the information collected during the field verification, officials prepared a mahazar and updated Prakash Raj’s electoral record as “Shifted” under Election Commission rules.

Officials said they also spoke directly with the actor.

Prakash Raj reportedly confirmed that he was no longer staying at the registered address but told officials that he continued to reside at another location within the Shantinagar Assembly constituency.

What Can Prakash Raj Do Now?

Officials said the actor can submit Form 6 through the Booth Level Officer responsible for the area where he currently resides.

His application can then be processed according to Election Commission guidelines.

Why This Matters

The episode highlights an important distinction in the ongoing voter-list debate.

Prakash Raj raised concerns that his name had been removed from the electoral roll, while officials maintain that his record was marked “Shifted” following residential verification.

With Karnataka’s SIR exercise already attracting intense public attention, the controversy also shows why voters need to verify that their electoral registration reflects their current residential address.
