Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security in Parliament on July 30 as the government assessed the rapidly evolving situation in West Asia.
The discussions focused on how further escalation in the region could affect India’s energy security, particularly supplies of crude oil, petroleum products, liquefied petroleum gas and other essential imports.
Top Ministers Attend Meeting
The meeting brought together some of the country’s most senior political, diplomatic, economic and security officials.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval were among those present.
Union ministers Amit Shah, Piyush Goyal, Kiren Rijiju, JP Nadda, Hardeep Singh Puri and Sarbananda Sonowal also attended the session.
Energy Security Takes Centre Stage
According to the report, officials reviewed the possible impact of the West Asia situation on India’s crude oil, LPG and other critical energy imports.
India depends heavily on the region for a substantial share of its oil and liquefied natural gas requirements, making any major disruption a direct concern for fuel availability, transport costs and the wider economy.
Government Reviews Emergency Measures
The CCS also discussed India’s preparedness and contingency plans to ensure that fuel supplies remain uninterrupted if the regional conflict worsens.
Such measures could involve closer monitoring of shipping routes, import diversification, emergency reserves and coordination between security, energy and economic ministries. The report did not disclose specific decisions taken during the meeting.

The presence of India’s top security, diplomatic and energy leadership signals that New Delhi is closely watching developments in West Asia.
Any prolonged disruption in the region could affect global oil prices and increase pressure on fuel costs in India.
