Palghar Shaken Twice in One Hour: Two 3.4-Magnitude Tremors Reported
Maharashtra’s Palghar district was hit by two magnitude 3.4 earthquakes within an hour on Monday night, causing concern among residents. Officials said there were no casualties, injuries or property damage reported so far.
The first tremor struck at 10:04 pm, followed by another at 11:00 pm. Both earthquakes occurred at a depth of around 5 km in Jawhar taluka, according to the district administration.
Two Tremors, One Hour Apart
The back-to-back seismic activity caused anxiety in Palghar and nearby areas.
Officials said both events were relatively low magnitude, but their close timing prompted authorities and disaster-management teams to monitor the situation closely.
Palghar Has Seen More Tremors
The latest earthquakes come after three tremors were recorded in the district last month, adding to concerns about recurring seismic activity in the region. Palghar is located roughly 100 km from Mumbai and has experienced low-intensity earthquakes over the years.
Authorities Monitoring the Situation
District disaster-management officials said teams are keeping a close watch following the latest tremors.
There are currently no reports of structural damage or loss of life, but authorities are continuing to assess the situation.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also directed authorities to conduct a comprehensive assessment of seismic activity in Palghar and Nashik following recent tremors in both districts.
