Missed Rao Bahadur in Theatres? It’s Coming to Netflix!

Satyadev’s psychological dark comedy Rao Bahadur is officially heading to OTT after completing its theatrical run.
Netflix has announced that the film will begin streaming on July 31 in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam, giving audiences across India another chance to discover the unusual and surreal drama.
Rao Bahadur was released in theatres on July 3 and is presented by Mahesh Babu and Namrata Shirodkar through GMB Entertainment.
A Surreal Story About Fading Royalty
Written, directed and edited by Venkatesh Maha, the film follows Bhuvanam Ramappa Rao Bahadur, an ageing aristocrat played by Satyadev.
Set against the backdrop of a fading aristocratic world, the story revolves around an alcoholic and mentally unstable man who is told that he has only a few months to live.
However, he survives beyond the medical prediction after becoming consumed by a powerful obsession.
The film uses dark humour and psychological drama to question social expectations, privilege and deeply rooted societal norms.
Satyadev Reunites With Venkatesh Maha
Rao Bahadur marks the second collaboration between Satyadev and director Venkatesh Maha after Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya, which was released in 2020.
The cast also includes Vikas Muppala and Deepa Thomas.
The film received mixed to positive reviews for its unconventional storytelling and performances, but failed to make a major impact at the box office. According to the report, it collected approximately ₹11.44 crore worldwide.
Can OTT Give It a Second Life?
Following Netflix’s announcement, several viewers expressed hope that Rao Bahadur could gain wider recognition through its digital release.
Films with experimental themes often struggle during theatrical runs but later develop strong fan followings on streaming platforms.
With its multilingual Netflix release, Rao Bahadur now has the opportunity to reach viewers beyond the Telugu-speaking market and potentially earn cult status.
