The Clue in the Blouse

In June 2025, a woman was found strangled in Hyderabad’s Bhoiguda area. She was a toddy shop visitor, just like six other murdered women in the past few months. All were middle-aged, poor, and had ties to local toddy centres.

But this time, cops found a folded chit of paper tucked in her blouse. It had a phone number. That trail led to Maina Ramulu, a familiar name—he had been arrested 20 years ago for killing 21 women.

Who is Maina Ramulu? 😵

Ramulu is a 55-year-old from Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri. He lost his wife to an early marriage separation, developed hatred towards women, and began targeting toddy shop visitors.

He was arrested in 2009 and convicted for 21 serial murders, earning him the chilling title “Telangana’s first known serial killer.” But he was released in 2018 for "good behavior."

2025 Murders—Same Pattern, Same Man?

Since early 2025, 7 women were murdered the exact same way—strangulation with sarees or towels, all near toddy dens. Cops began suspecting a copycat... but DNA and the chit matched Ramulu. ⚖️

When arrested last week, he confessed. Said he couldn’t “resist the urge” after returning to toddy drinking.

Who Are the Victims?

Daily-wage workers, single women, widows. Many had no families to follow up on missing cases. They were seen as expendable—which let Ramulu continue unchecked.

Locals say:

“No one cared till bodies piled up. Poor women's lives are not headlines.” – A toddy shop cleaner in Bhoiguda.

Why Did the System Fail?

🔴 Early release despite mass murder conviction. No post-release monitoring. Toddy shop areas lack CCTV & patrol. Marginalised women were invisible to the system.

If a known serial killer can walk out, kill again, and go unnoticed—what does that say about our justice system?

MediaFx Take 🎙️

This isn’t just a crime story—it’s a system failure. Ramulu is a symptom of deeper issues: caste, class, gender bias, and weak penal reforms. The victims weren’t rich or famous—just women trying to get through another day.

So what now?👉Surveillance in toddy shop zones. Mandatory tracking for released convicts.👉 Support systems for vulnerable women. Sensitisation for cops—not all lives scream for help.

Let’s not wait for another chit-in-a-blouse to wake up.
