Celebrity chef Vikas Khanna has recalled Shah Rukh Khan’s visit to his acclaimed New York restaurant Bungalow, revealing that the actor’s reaction to the space left a lasting emotional impact on him.
Speaking with Shekhar Suman on Shekhar Tonite, Khanna said SRK felt Bungalow was much more than a conventional restaurant because of the way it represented Indian culture, family and heritage.
SRK Compared Bungalow to a Temple
According to Khanna, Shah Rukh told him that restaurants often feel transactional, whereas entering Bungalow felt like entering a place devoted to something deeper.
SRK reportedly praised Khanna for attempting to represent Indian culture, parents and ancestors through the restaurant.
For Khanna, the comments were especially meaningful because Shah Rukh has been one of his personal heroes for decades.
Vikas Khanna’s Emotional Connection With SRK
Khanna had previously written about SRK’s visit in 2024, saying his life had been deeply influenced by three people: his mother, chef Sanjeev Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan.
He recalled watching Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge repeatedly with his sister and admiring Shah Rukh not only as an actor but also for his confidence, patience and compassion.
“Bungalow Represents Us”
Khanna said one of the most emotional moments came when Shah Rukh told him that Bungalow represented “our parents, our ancestors, our India.”
The chef described the interaction as deeply personal, particularly because the restaurant was built around memories of Indian family life and cultural traditions.
Bungalow Has Become a Celebrity Favourite
Located in New York, Bungalow has attracted several major international and Indian celebrities.
Visitors mentioned by Hindustan Times include Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Anne Hathaway and Neil Patrick Harris, in addition to Shah Rukh Khan.
What’s Next for Shah Rukh Khan?
Shah Rukh Khan is currently awaiting the release of King, directed by Siddharth Anand.
The film’s ensemble includes Deepika Padukone, Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Raghav Juyal, Jaideep Ahlawat and Arshad Warsi, and is scheduled for a Christmas 2026 theatrical release.
