Indian Sailor Killed in Hormuz Attack; India Lodges Strong Protest With Iran

India has strongly condemned attacks on two commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz that killed one Indian seafarer and injured 10 others.

The Ministry of External Affairs said it was deeply concerned by the attacks on MT Al Bahiyah and MT Mombasa, describing the violence as a threat to civilian lives, maritime trade and safe navigation through international waterways. (Hindustan Times)

30 Indians Were Aboard the Two Ships

The two vessels reportedly had a combined crew of 46 people, including 30 Indian nationals.

Twelve Indians were aboard MT Al Bahiyah. One Indian seafarer was killed and another was injured in the attack.

MT Mombasa had 18 Indian crew members, of whom nine were injured. Two of the injured were reported to be in serious condition. (Hindustan Times)

India Summons Iranian Diplomat

The MEA summoned the deputy chief of mission of the Iranian embassy in New Delhi and lodged a strong protest over the attacks.

India expressed condolences to the family of the deceased seafarer and wished the injured crew members a speedy recovery. (Hindustan Times)

Commercial Shipping Must Not Be Targeted

New Delhi said commercial vessels and civilian infrastructure must not become targets during regional hostilities.

The government stressed that free and uninterrupted navigation through international waterways must be restored in accordance with international law. (Hindustan Times)

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes and carries a significant portion of global oil and gas shipments.

Any prolonged disruption in the region could affect energy supplies, shipping costs and international trade, including supplies reaching India. (Hindustan Times)

India Calls for Dialogue

India also expressed concern over the renewed escalation of violence in West Asia and called for an immediate end to hostilities.

The MEA urged all sides to return to dialogue and diplomacy in the interest of regional peace, security and stability. (Hindustan Times)
