How Much Alcohol Can Indians Legally Keep at Home? 🍾

Every state in India has its own rules and limits for how much alcohol you can keep at home. Let's look at the different rules across the country!

📍Delhi

• You can keep 18 liters of liquor at home, including beer and wine.

• The maximum limit for rum, whisky, vodka, or gin is 9 liters.

• If you need to carry alcohol out of Delhi, you can only take 1 liter with you.

📍Haryana

• Up to 6 bottles of local liquor (each 750 ml).

• 18 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 6 bottles of imported foreign liquor.

• 12 bottles of beer (each 650 ml) and 6 bottles of rum (each 750 ml).

• Also, 6 bottles of vodka/cider/gin and 12 bottles of wine can be stored at home.

📍Punjab

• Legally, you can store up to 1.5 liters of foreign-made spirits (whether made in India or imported).

• Residents are allowed to keep 2 liters of wine and 6 liters of beer.

📍Uttar Pradesh

• The legal limit allows for 1.5 liters of foreign-made spirits, 2 liters of wine, and 6 liters of beer.

📍Andhra Pradesh

• Residents can keep up to 3 bottles of IMFL or foreign liquor and 6 bottles of beer without a permit.

📍Arunachal Pradesh

• Without a valid liquor license, owning more than 18 liters of IMFL or country liquor is prohibited.

📍West Bengal

• Anyone over 21 can buy and store 6 bottles (each 750 ml) of IMFL.

• Additionally, up to 18 bottles of beer can be kept without a license.

📍Assam

• Retail sales allow up to 12 bottles of IMFL, 4.5 liters of rectified or denatured spirit, and 3 bottles (each 750 ml).

📍Goa

• Residents can store 12 IMFL bottles, 24 beer bottles, 18 country liquor bottles, and 6 bottles of rectified/denatured spirits.

📍Himachal Pradesh

• You can keep 48 beer bottles and 36 whiskey bottles at home.

📍Kerala

• You can keep 3 liters of IMFL and 6 liters of beer at home.

📍Madhya Pradesh

• High-income individuals can store up to 100 bottles of “expensive” liquor at home.

📍Maharashtra

• A license is mandatory for alcohol consumption.

• Residents need permits to purchase, transport, and consume domestic or imported liquor.

📍Rajasthan

• You can store up to 12 bottles (or 9 liters) of IMFL at home.

📍Jammu & Kashmir

• Residents can store a maximum of 12 bottles of IMFL (750 ml, including JK country whiskey) and 12 bottles of beer (each 650 ml).

🚫 Alcohol-Prohibited States

• Alcohol is completely prohibited in Mizoram, Gujarat, Bihar, Nagaland, and Lakshadweep.

• Violating the law in these dry states can lead to severe consequences.
