How Much Alcohol Can Indians Legally Keep at Home? šŸ¾

Every state in India has its own rules and limits for how much alcohol you can keep at home. Let's look at the different rules across the country!

šŸ“Delhi

  • You can keep 18 litersĀ of liquor at home, including beer and wine.

  • The maximum limit for rum, whisky, vodka, or gin is 9 liters.

  • If you need to carry alcohol out of Delhi, you can only take 1 literĀ with you.

šŸ“Haryana

  • Up to 6 bottlesĀ of local liquor (each 750 ml).

  • 18 bottlesĀ of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 6 bottlesĀ of imported foreign liquor.

  • 12 bottlesĀ of beer (each 650 ml) and 6 bottlesĀ of rum (each 750 ml).

  • Also, 6 bottlesĀ of vodka/cider/gin and 12 bottlesĀ of wine can be stored at home.

  • Legally, you can store up to 1.5 litersĀ of foreign-made spirits (whether made in India or imported).

  • Residents are allowed to keep 2 litersĀ of wine and 6 litersĀ of beer.

  • The legal limit allows for 1.5 litersĀ of foreign-made spirits, 2 litersĀ of wine, and 6 litersĀ of beer.

  • Residents can keep up to 3 bottlesĀ of IMFL or foreign liquor and 6 bottlesĀ of beer without a permit.

  • Without a valid liquor license, owning more than 18 litersĀ of IMFL or country liquor is prohibited.

  • Anyone over 21 can buy and store 6 bottlesĀ (each 750 ml) of IMFL.

  • Additionally, up to 18 bottlesĀ of beer can be kept without a license.

  • Retail sales allow up to 12 bottlesĀ of IMFL, 4.5 litersĀ of rectified or denatured spirit, and 3 bottlesĀ (each 750 ml).

  • Residents can store 12 IMFL bottles, 24 beer bottles, 18 country liquor bottles, and 6 bottlesĀ of rectified/denatured spirits.

  • You can keep 48 beer bottlesĀ and 36 whiskey bottlesĀ at home.

  • You can keep 3 litersĀ of IMFL and 6 litersĀ of beer at home.

  • High-income individuals can store up to 100 bottlesĀ of ā€œexpensiveā€ liquor at home.

  • A license is mandatory for alcohol consumption.

  • Residents need permits to purchase, transport, and consume domestic or imported liquor.

šŸ“Rajasthan

  • You can store up to 12 bottlesĀ (or 9 liters) of IMFL at home.

šŸ“Jammu & Kashmir

  • Residents can store a maximum of 12 bottlesĀ of IMFL (750 ml, including JK country whiskey) and 12 bottlesĀ of beer (each 650 ml).

🚫 Alcohol-Prohibited States

  • Alcohol is completely prohibited in Mizoram, Gujarat, Bihar, Nagaland, and Lakshadweep.

  • Violating the law in these dry states can lead to severe consequences.
