Cockroach Janta Party spokesperson Saurav Das has responded sharply to actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut after she criticised the language, appearance and social-media content associated with recent Gen Z protests.
Das claimed that young people do not take Kangana’s remarks seriously and argued that Gen Z has contributed significantly more to the country than she suggested.
Kangana Criticises Gen Z Protest Reels
The controversy began after Kangana shared Instagram Stories attacking videos emerging from the protests.
She described the reels as offensive and criticised the protesters’ language, conduct and decision to identify themselves as “cockroaches.” She also questioned how members of the younger generation were being raised.
Saurav Das Responds
Speaking to ANI, Saurav Das said even Kangana’s own party members allegedly did not take her seriously and questioned why Gen Z should pay attention to her comments.
He also referred to an earlier video in which Kangana reportedly spoke about the workload involved in serving as an MP, arguing that it reflected her attitude towards public responsibility.
Das concluded by saying that Gen Z has done, and continues to do, far more for India than Kangana acknowledged.
Protests Turn Into Viral Online Trend
Videos from the Gen Z demonstrations have spread widely on Instagram, mixing political protest with memes, humour, fashion videos and popular music.
Some participants posted “fit checks” before attending demonstrations, while others used humorous captions about facing police action or paired protest footage with gaming soundtracks.
The unusual online style has attracted both support and criticism, with supporters calling it a new form of youth political expression and critics accusing protesters of trivialising serious issues.
Debate Over Youth-Led Political Expression
The exchange between Kangana and Das has intensified the wider debate over how younger Indians participate in political movements.
While traditional protests usually rely on speeches, slogans and organised marches, Gen Z demonstrators are increasingly using memes and short-form videos to communicate political messages and attract wider attention.
