Former JPSC Chairperson L Khiangte Arrested By CID Amid Student Protests In Jharkhand

Former Jharkhand Public Service Commission chairperson L Khiangte has been arrested by the Jharkhand Criminal Investigation Department amid growing student protests over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.
The arrest comes as students continue to demand accountability and transparency in Jharkhand’s recruitment examination system.
JPSC Exam Probe Intensifies
The CID is investigating alleged irregularities in the 14th JPSC Combined Civil Services examination and other recruitment tests.
Investigators have previously searched JPSC offices, Khiangte’s residence and the premises of the private agency involved in examination-related processing. Examination documents, OMR sheets and digital evidence were seized during the investigation.
Khiangte Had Earlier Resigned
Khiangte resigned as JPSC chairperson after the investigation intensified. At the time, he said he had voluntarily stepped down to ensure that the probe could take place freely and fairly.
He had also said that the investigation was necessary to establish whether irregularities had occurred and that he would cooperate with investigators.
Multiple Arrests Already Made
The investigation had already resulted in several arrests, including JPSC deputy controller of examinations Shweta Gupta and people associated with the private data-processing agency handling examination operations.
The CID had also questioned Khiangte for several hours before his arrest, as investigators examined the conduct of examinations, agency selection, complaints and other aspects of the recruitment process.
Students Keep Up The Pressure
The arrest comes amid protests by students and aspirants demanding action over alleged irregularities and greater transparency in recruitment examinations.
The controversy has also affected the examination calendar, with the JPSC Combined Civil Services Mains examination postponed amid the ongoing investigation and protests.
