Finding It Hard To Sit Cross-Legged Or Climb Stairs? Orthopaedic Doctor Reveals 6 Early Signs Of Joint Degeneration

Orthopaedic experts are warning that difficulty performing everyday movements, such as sitting cross-legged or climbing stairs, could be early signs of joint degeneration.

According to doctors, the six early indicators include:

  1. Joint Pain or Stiffness – Especially after inactivity or in the morning.

  2. Reduced Range of Motion – Difficulty bending, stretching, or rotating joints.

  3. Swelling or Inflammation – Occasional puffiness around affected joints.

  4. Grinding Sensation – Feeling or hearing grinding when moving the joint.

  5. Weakness or Instability – Joints giving way or muscles around the joint feeling weak.

  6. Changes in Posture or Gait – Compensatory movements to avoid pain or discomfort.

Early recognition and lifestyle adjustments  including gentle exercise, weight management, and physiotherapy can slow progression and maintain mobility. In some cases, medical interventions may be necessary.

Doctors emphasize that even mild discomfort should not be ignored, as early intervention can significantly improve long-term joint health.

Why This Matters

For Gen-Z and young adults, sedentary lifestyles, excessive screen time, and lack of exercise are contributing to early joint issues, making awareness and prevention crucial for maintaining mobility and overall health.
