Fatty Liver? Add These 7 Fruits To Your Diet

Fatty liver disease has become a growing health concern, but experts say everyday dietary choices can play an important role in supporting liver health.

US-based gastroenterologist Dr Saurabh Sethi recently shared seven fruits that people diagnosed with fatty liver may consider including in a balanced diet. These fruits contain nutrients such as fibre, antioxidants and healthy fats.

Apples

Apples contain pectin, a form of soluble fibre, along with antioxidants. Dr Sethi recommends eating apples with the skin whenever possible because it provides additional fibre.

The fruit may also support better blood sugar management, which can be important for people dealing with metabolic health conditions.

Kiwis

Kiwis are rich in vitamin C, antioxidants and dietary fibre.

Dr Sethi suggested that people who frequently experience constipation may consider eating two kiwis a day with the skin, provided they can tolerate it.

Raspberries

Raspberries are among the highest-fibre fruits and are relatively low in sugar.

They also contain antioxidant compounds known as polyphenols. The berries can be added to plain oatmeal or unsweetened Greek yoghurt.

Blueberries

Blueberries contain anthocyanins, a group of antioxidants that may help the body manage inflammation and oxidative stress.

They can be consumed fresh or frozen, making them an easy addition to breakfast bowls, yoghurt or smoothies without added sugar.

Pears

Pears contain fibre and antioxidants and have a relatively low glycaemic index.

Eating pears with their skin provides more fibre than consuming them peeled.

Avocados

Avocado is technically a fruit and contains fibre and monounsaturated fats.

However, portion control remains important because avocados are calorie-dense. They can be eaten mashed on toast or added to salads as part of a balanced meal.

Pomegranate

Pomegranate contains antioxidants such as punicalagins and ellagic acid.

The seeds can be sprinkled over yoghurt or salads. The Moneycontrol report states that these compounds may support inflammation management, liver enzyme levels and insulin sensitivity.

What You Should Remember

No single fruit can cure fatty liver disease.

These foods should be treated as part of a balanced diet rather than a replacement for medical treatment. People diagnosed with fatty liver should consult a doctor or qualified dietitian for personalised advice, particularly if they also have diabetes, obesity or another medical condition. Moneycontrol’s report also carries a disclaimer advising readers to seek qualified medical guidance.
