The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for Delhi and orange alerts for parts of Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut and Gurugram, warning that intense rainfall, thunderstorms and further disruption could continue through the day. (Hindustan Times)
Weather trackers said eastern parts of the National Capital Region including Noida, Ghaziabad, north Delhi and east Delhi could be among the worst affected. However, rainfall figures of up to 200 mm mentioned in the report came from independent weather observers, not directly from the IMD forecast. (Hindustan Times)
The rain has severely affected traffic in Gurugram, particularly around the Delhi–Jaipur Highway service lanes, Sohna Road, Basai Road, Pataudi Road and several low-lying sectors. Civic agencies and police teams have been deployed to drain water and regulate traffic. (Hindustan Times)
Between the morning of July 8 and early July 9, Kamla Nehru Nagar in Ghaziabad recorded 143 mm of rain, while Delhi’s Mehrauli recorded 83 mm and Lodi Road received 79 mm. (Hindustan Times)
Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from waterlogged stretches and follow official weather and traffic advisories.
