The Andhra Pradesh government has issued a statewide COVID-19 preparedness alert following two COVID-related deaths and the detection of eight active cases.

Health authorities have directed all districts to strengthen surveillance and ensure hospitals are ready to handle any possible increase in infections. Officials have stressed that the advisory is precautionary and that there is currently no need for panic.
Surveillance and Testing Stepped Up
The Health Department has instructed district administrations to intensify:
COVID-19 testing
Case reporting
Contact tracing
Surveillance of respiratory illnesses
Monitoring of hospital admissions
Officials have also been asked to identify clusters quickly and report any unusual rise in infections.
Hospitals Asked to Review Preparedness
Government and private hospitals have been directed to assess their readiness and ensure the availability of:
Isolation beds
Medical oxygen
Essential medicines
Testing facilities
Personal protective equipment
Trained doctors and healthcare workers
The government wants hospitals to remain prepared without creating unnecessary fear among the public.
Positive Samples to Undergo Genome Sequencing
Health authorities have been instructed to send positive COVID-19 samples for genome sequencing.
The process will help officials identify the variants currently circulating and detect any new mutation that may require closer monitoring.
Cases Mainly Reported From YSR Kadapa
Officials said the recent infections were primarily reported from YSR Kadapa district, where the two COVID-related deaths also occurred.
The remaining active patients are under medical observation. Some are undergoing treatment in hospitals, while others are recovering in home isolation.
Government Says Situation Is Under Control
Despite the fresh cases, the Andhra Pradesh government has reiterated that there is no indication of a large-scale outbreak.
Authorities described the statewide alert as an early preparedness measure intended to prevent transmission and ensure the healthcare system can respond quickly if cases increase.
Vulnerable Groups Advised to Stay Cautious
Senior citizens, pregnant women and people with underlying medical conditions have been advised to take additional precautions.
People with diabetes, heart disease, respiratory disorders, reduced immunity or other chronic health conditions may face a greater risk of complications from respiratory infections.
Preventive Measures Recommended
Residents have been advised to follow basic precautions, including:
Washing or sanitising hands regularly
Covering coughs and sneezes
Avoiding close contact when unwell
Wearing a mask when experiencing respiratory symptoms
Wearing a mask while visiting hospitals or crowded healthcare facilities
Seeking medical attention for persistent fever, cough, sore throat or breathing difficulty
Officials said early testing, timely treatment and responsible public behaviour remain the most effective ways to control the spread of infection.
