₹75 Crore in 7 Months: Centre Reveals PM Modi’s Foreign Travel Expenses

The Union government spent nearly ₹75 crore on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign visits during the first seven months of 2026, the Ministry of External Affairs informed the Rajya Sabha.
According to the ministry’s written response, expenditure on the Prime Minister’s international visits up to July totalled ₹74,58,93,797, or approximately ₹74.59 crore. Modi travelled to 13 countries during this period.
Which Countries Did PM Modi Visit?
The countries listed by the ministry were:
Malaysia, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Italy, France, Slovakia, Seychelles, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand.
The information was provided in response to a parliamentary question raised by MPs Sanjay Singh and V. Sivadasan, who sought country-wise and year-wise details of the Prime Minister’s foreign travel expenditure since 2021.
Norway Trip Cost the Most
The highest expenditure reported for a single country during 2026 was ₹17.47 crore for the Prime Minister’s visit to Norway in the second half of May.
The visit to Israel in February recorded the second-highest expenditure at approximately ₹11.92 crore.
₹557.51 Crore Spent Since 2021
The ministry said expenditure on the Prime Minister’s foreign visits between 2021 and July 2026 totalled approximately ₹557.51 crore.
For 2025, the highest country-specific expenditure was about ₹25.60 crore for the visit to France in February.
Figures From Previous Governments Shared
The government also provided examples of expenditure incurred during foreign visits undertaken under the previous Congress-led government.
These included approximately ₹10.74 crore for a United States visit in 2011, ₹9.96 crore for Russia in 2013, ₹8.33 crore for France in 2011 and ₹6.02 crore for Germany in 2013.
The ministry clarified that these were actual historical expenses and had not been adjusted for inflation or currency fluctuations, meaning they are not directly equivalent to present-day costs.
What Do the Expenses Cover?
Prime ministerial foreign visits typically involve bilateral discussions, international summits, meetings with overseas Indian communities, official ceremonies and state events.
The Prime Minister travels aboard the specially configured Air India One aircraft, accompanied by senior government officials and security personnel.
