Cockroach Janta Party founder and president Abhijeet Dipke began an indefinite hunger strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Saturday after Delhi Police shifted activist Sonam Wangchuk to Safdarjung Hospital.

Wangchuk was taken to the hospital after completing around 20 days of an indefinite fast in support of students protesting alleged examination irregularities and paper leaks. Hospital authorities reportedly said that he was stable but required continuous medical monitoring. (The Economic Times)
Dipke Criticises Police Action
Addressing students and supporters at Jantar Mantar, Dipke strongly criticised the Delhi Police and the BJP-led Central government, alleging that Wangchuk had been forcibly removed from the protest site.
Dipke accused the authorities of attempting to suppress a peaceful student-led agitation and declared that he would continue the indefinite hunger strike in Wangchuk’s place. (The Economic Times)
Dipke Claims He Was Detained
Before reaching the protest site, Dipke claimed that he was detained and assaulted by Delhi Police during the commotion surrounding Wangchuk’s removal.
He later became emotional while addressing supporters and said that he was “not a national security threat,” maintaining that the demonstrators were peacefully demanding accountability over examination irregularities. (The Times of India)
Police Cite Medical Advice and Court Directions
Delhi Police maintained that Wangchuk was shifted to the hospital because his health had deteriorated after the prolonged fast.
Authorities reportedly acted following medical advice and Delhi High Court directions permitting intervention when necessary to protect his health. Protesters, however, described the action as forced and criticised the manner in which he was removed. (Reuters)
Why Were Students Protesting?
The Cockroach Janta Party has been leading an agitation demanding accountability over alleged examination paper leaks and irregularities affecting students.
The protesters have also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and compensation for families of students who allegedly died by suicide amid academic and examination-related distress. (AP News)
Protest Expected to Continue
Despite Wangchuk’s hospitalisation, CJP members and student activists continued their protest at Jantar Mantar.
Dipke said the movement would continue and that the organisation planned further demonstrations, including a proposed march towards Parliament. (AP News)
