AI Made A Fake Video Of Her Even Family Thought It Was Real
Content creator Muskan Karia has spoken publicly about a disturbing AI-generated deepfake video that falsely appeared to show her in a compromising situation.

The 22-year-old influencer said the manipulated video was so realistic that it left her traumatised and forced her to convince even people close to her that it was fake.
How She Discovered The Video
Karia said the ordeal began in late May when she received an Instagram message containing the video along with the question, “Is this you?”
She initially struggled to process what she was seeing because the clip closely resembled her appearance.
According to Karia, some family members and friends also initially believed that the video could be genuine because of how realistic the manipulation looked.
She Says The Video Was Completely Fake
Karia stressed that the person shown in the manipulated clip was not her.
She said one of the most painful parts of the experience was having to repeatedly explain and prove to people around her that the footage had been created using AI.
Police Action Taken
In an Instagram post shared on August 12, Karia said Maharashtra Police had taken action and apprehended people allegedly connected to the creation of the deepfake.
Reports also say she pursued a police complaint after discovering the manipulated content.
The Emotional Impact
Karia described the experience as deeply disturbing, highlighting how realistic AI-generated content can damage a person’s reputation and emotional well-being even when the content is completely fabricated.
Her experience also shows how quickly manipulated videos can blur the line between real and fake for ordinary viewers.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Deepfakes are no longer just an internet novelty.
When AI-generated videos are used to falsely place real people in intimate or compromising situations, the consequences can include harassment, reputational damage and severe emotional distress.
Karia’s case is a reminder that convincing-looking footage should not automatically be treated as proof that something actually happened, especially as generative AI tools become more sophisticated.
