Trump Claims Major Diplomatic Breakthrough — BUT Peace Talks Are Still at Risk

In a dramatic new chapter of the ongoing Middle East conflict, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed negotiations with Iran are progressing at a “rapid pace,” even as tensions surged over Israeli strikes in Lebanon and Tehran’s reported suspension of peace talks.

Trump said he had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and representatives of Hezbollah in efforts to stop the fighting, with an announcement that both sides had agreed to halt attacks on each other’s forces.

However, conflicting reports emerged: Iranian state media claimed Tehran had halted negotiations with Washington over what it called unacceptable Israeli military actions in Lebanon’s southern suburbs, particularly around Beirut.

The situation remains tense on the ground. Israeli airstrikes and Hezbollah rocket launches have continued despite diplomatic moves, and Lebanon remains a major flashpoint in the wider regional confrontation involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.

International actors, including the United Nations, are urging restraint as fears grow that further escalation could erode already fragile peace prospects.
