No App Needed: WhatsApp Calls Are Now Live in Your Browser!

The new feature works inside a web browser, removing the need to download the separate WhatsApp desktop application. It supports both one-to-one and group calls, making the browser version far more useful for students, professionals and people using shared or restricted computers.
Calls Without Leaving the Browser
Users can now start or answer calls from WhatsApp Web while continuing to work inside their browser.
The web version also supports screen sharing, call reactions and a dedicated Calls tab containing call history and favourites.
WhatsApp says browser-based calls remain end-to-end encrypted, have no time limits and are available at no additional cost.
Switch Calls Between Devices
WhatsApp has also introduced Call Transfer for active group calls.
This allows users to begin a call on a phone or tablet and move it to WhatsApp Web or the desktop application without disconnecting. Calls can also be transferred back to a mobile device when needed.
Waiting Room for Group Calls
Another new feature gives hosts greater control over who enters a group call.
When creating a WhatsApp call link, hosts can activate the Require Approval to Join option. Participants will then remain in a waiting room until the host allows them to enter.
Better Video and Clearer Audio
WhatsApp has introduced QuickHD, which is designed to deliver high-definition video during the first few seconds of a call.
A new Noise Suppression option can also reduce surrounding sounds so voices remain clearer in busy environments. Users can manage this feature through the in-call settings.
Gradual Rollout Begins
WhatsApp announced the features on July 28, 2026, and said they are being released gradually.
This means some users may not see the new calling options immediately, but wider availability is expected soon.
For millions of people who already keep WhatsApp Web open while studying or working, the update could reduce the need to switch between phones, desktop applications and meeting platforms.
