Butter, a five-year-old Indian indie dog, has reportedly become the first indie dog to complete the trek to Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal.

Adopted by Noida-based entrepreneur Yati Gaur during one of his walks in Rajasthan, Butter has already travelled more than 15,000 km across India with him crossing mountains, forests and different terrains. (IndulgExpress)
Butter’s Big Himalayan Feat
For Butter, the Annapurna Base Camp trek was not her first adventure.
Yati said she had already done multiple treks across the Himalayas, Uttarakhand and parts of the North East, making her familiar with altitude, cold weather and difficult trails. (IndulgExpress)
Careful Preparation Behind the Journey
Butter’s endurance comes from years of hiking and careful care.
Yati said her food changes depending on the terrain. In Delhi, she eats lighter meals, while in the mountains, she gets calorie-rich food like chicken and mutton to keep her warm and energetic. He also said Butter gets a full health check every three months. (IndulgExpress)
Crossing Into Nepal Was Not Simple
Taking Butter to Nepal required proper documentation, including a medical certificate issued within 72 hours of crossing the border.
Yati also ensured vaccinations, health checks and PCR tests were completed before the journey. (IndulgExpress)
Message Behind Butter’s Trek
Yati said the Annapurna trek was not about setting a record, but about challenging perceptions around Indian indie dogs.
He wanted people to see that indigenous dogs are adaptable, strong and capable of handling extreme temperatures from freezing mountain conditions to intense Indian summers. (IndulgExpress)
Butter’s journey has now become a powerful reminder that Indian indie dogs are not just street survivors they can be fearless explorers too.
