India could be heading into a hotter-than-usual summer.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that several regions are likely to experience above-normal heatwave days during Summer 2026. Northwest, central, and parts of eastern India are expected to see prolonged high temperatures, with some areas facing extended dry spells.
In simple terms: this summer may feel longer, harsher, and more exhausting.
Heatwaves aren’t just uncomfortable — they affect power demand, water availability, public health, and daily work routines. Students preparing for exams, gig workers, delivery staff, and construction labourers often face the brunt of extreme temperatures.
Why this matters: rising heat trends are becoming more frequent, not rare. Urban heat islands, shrinking green cover, and dense construction amplify temperatures in cities, making evenings feel no cooler.
Subtle system angle: while air-conditioned spaces offer relief to some, outdoor workers and low-income communities remain most vulnerable during prolonged heat spells.
With April and May approaching, health experts are already advising hydration, reduced outdoor exposure during peak hours, and early precaution planning.
Summer 2026 is not here yet — but the warning has arrived.
