Hyderabad just dropped a winter plot twist, waking up to its coldest morning in seven years and leaving everyone hunting for hoodies, socks, and that long-forgotten blanket. On Friday, December 12, temperatures in parts of the city crashed to levels more commonly associated with hill stations, with the University of Hyderabad area shivering at a bone-chilling 6.3 degrees Celsius. Moula Ali followed with 7.3°C, and Rajendra Nagar clocked in at 7.7°C, turning regular morning commutes into icy adventures. Other neighbourhoods weren’t spared either: Shivrampalli dipped to 8.8°C, Alwal hit 9.0°C, Gachibowli recorded 9.1°C, Bollarum logged 9.3°C, while places like Maredpally, Quthbullapur, and Jeedimetla hovered just above single digits, still unusually cold for Hyderabad. Weather buff T Balaji, who closely tracks temperature trends, flagged this as the lowest the city has seen in seven years, making this chill wave a legit weather event and not just “winter feels.” The India Meteorological Department, meanwhile, says the city can expect hazy mornings and clear blue skies later in the day, with temperatures staying 3–4 degrees below normal on December 13 and 14. For the next couple of days, Hyderabad’s maximum is likely to be around 30°C and the minimum near 12°C, meaning crisp evenings and cold nights are here to stay a bit longer. So if you thought Hyderabad doesn’t do “real winter,” this week pretty much proved otherwise, and your morning chai just became non-negotiable.
