Heritage clash erupts at Hyderabad’s 145-year-old Chiran Fort Club

A heritage controversy is unfolding in Hyderabad, and it’s raising serious questions about how the city treats its past.

At the 145-year-old Chiran Fort Club in Begumpet, Paigah family scion Obaid Ur Rehman has alleged that parts of the historic property including the main gate and burj (tower structures) have been demolished.

In simple terms: heritage vs development is clashing again.

Rehman claims the site has suffered damage and warned of further destruction if action isn’t taken. However, the property owner has strongly denied these allegations, stating that no harm has been done and all work carried out has the required permissions.

Why this matters: Hyderabad is rapidly expanding, but its heritage structures are increasingly caught between preservation and real estate pressure.

Subtle system angle: heritage conservation often takes a backseat when land value rises, exposing how urban growth can override cultural and historical protection unless regulations are strictly enforced.

For Gen Z, this is more than an old building it’s about whether cities can grow without erasing their identity.

The final truth may depend on investigations, but the debate is already live.
