The worst-hit was Malana village, an isolated area near the Parvati Valley, which got cut off completelyĀ as gushing waters swept away houses, roads, and vehicles . Visuals released by emergency officials show uprooted trees, mangled metal, and people screaming for help in the dark .
What exactly happened?
Late evening on Sunday (4 Aug), a cloudburstĀ struck the higher reaches of the valley āļø. Water from overflowing streams turned into violent torrents, crashing into homes while most villagers were asleep . āIt felt like a monster was coming down the mountain,ā said a survivor who managed to escape with his children .

Why does this keep happening?
