Allahabad High Court Orders FIR Against Rahul Gandhi Over Citizenship Row

The Allahabad High Court has directed the registration of an FIR against Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in connection with allegations surrounding his citizenship status. The order comes amid a long-standing controversy where claims were raised questioning whether Gandhi held British citizenship.

The court’s directive followed a petition seeking legal action, arguing that the matter required proper investigation. The High Court observed that if cognizable offences are disclosed, the police must proceed with registering an FIR and conducting a probe.

The issue of Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship has surfaced multiple times in the past, especially during election periods, with allegations linking him to a UK-based company and possible foreign citizenship claims. However, Gandhi has consistently denied these allegations, stating that he is solely an Indian citizen.

With this latest development, the matter is expected to move into a formal investigation phase, potentially intensifying political tensions between the ruling party and the opposition ahead of upcoming electoral battles.
