TL;DR 👉Seven men from Punjab, Haryana, and Jammu went to Russia chasing job dreams. Instead of high-paying construction work, they were pushed into the Russian Army near the Ukraine frontline. Forced contracts, threats with guns, expired visas – their lives are now in danger, and families back home are pleading with the Indian government to save them.

From Job Hopes to War Zone
These men travelled on study or business visas, believing they’d earn up to ₹20 lakh a month as construction workers. Instead of Moscow jobs, they were taken to a military camp in Donetsk, Ukraine – an active battlefield. Families in India are devastated.
Contracts They Couldn’t Read
At the camp, they were forced to sign contracts written only in Russian. When they hesitated, soldiers allegedly threatened them at gunpoint. Within just 15 days, they were given basic training and sent to dig bunkers, handle weapons, and even face frontline combat. Some of them are already feared dead.
Time Running Out
One of the men, Gursewak Singh from Punjab, had a visa that expired in September. He begged to return, but officials ignored him. Others too are stuck with visas that are no longer valid, leaving them even more vulnerable.
Govt Finally Reacts
The families have reached out to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Indian Embassy in Moscow, and state leaders. The MEA says it has raised the issue with Russia and warned Indians not to fall for such fake offers.
But this raises tough questions: why are shady agents still freely operating? Why does the government act only after people’s lives are already in danger?
The Larger Picture
This isn’t just about 7 men. It’s about a pattern:
Job agents targeting poor rural youth with fake offers
Exploiting language barriers with forced contracts
Trapping people in foreign wars that have nothing to do with them
Hundreds of Indians may be stuck in similar situations, with no clear way back home.
MediaFx People’s POV
From the people’s side, this is nothing but exploitation of the poor. Young men from villages take huge loans and leave home chasing dreams abroad. Instead, they end up as pawns in wars they have no stake in.
The government must crack down hard on job agents, spread awareness in rural areas, and demand the immediate rescue of those trapped. Friendships between governments should never come before the safety of ordinary citizens.
Because no family should lose their son in someone else’s war.
