Residents in several parts of Hyderabad should prepare for a temporary disruption in drinking water supply this weekend.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has announced that water supply will be affected for **36 hours starting Saturday morning** due to repair and replacement works in the **Manjeera Phase-III system**.
Officials said the work involves removing and replacing **high-tension (HT) electrical panels** at the pump house located in **Peddapur**. These panels have been in use for more than **35 years**, and authorities say upgrading them is necessary to ensure stable water supply in the long term.
In simple terms: the city is pausing water supply briefly to upgrade old infrastructure.
The Manjeera Phase-III system is one of the key water supply sources for Hyderabad, serving several residential zones. During the maintenance period, officials have advised residents to store sufficient water in advance.
Why this matters: infrastructure upgrades are essential for fast-growing cities like Hyderabad, but temporary disruptions can affect households, restaurants, hostels, and small businesses that rely heavily on continuous water supply.
Subtle system angle: many urban systems installed decades ago now need upgrades as city populations grow, making periodic maintenance unavoidable for reliable services.
