Telangana announces 48-day summer holidays as heat reshapes school calendar

The Telangana government has officially declared summer holidays, giving students a 48-day break from April 24 to June 11, 2026.

Schools across the state will reopen on June 12 for the new academic year.

In simple terms: long summer break is locked in.

The decision comes as temperatures continue to rise, with schools already running half-day schedules to manage the heat. Officials have also allowed institutions to conduct weekly additional classes if required, ensuring syllabus completion isn’t affected.

Why this matters: climate conditions are now directly influencing how education systems function.

Subtle system angle: while students get relief from extreme heat, the need for extra classes shows how education systems are being forced to adapt without fundamentally solving infrastructure gaps like cooling, ventilation, or climate resilience in schools.

For students, it’s a mix of freedom and flexibility more vacation now, but a possibility of adjusted schedules later.

Summer isn’t just a break anymore it’s becoming a structural part of how schooling is planned.
