Supported His Arrest, But Vishal Says: ‘I Still Love Udhaya

Tamil actor Vishal has clarified that his personal bond with Udhayanidhi Stalin remains strong, even after he publicly supported action against him over an alleged remark involving actor Trisha Krishnan.
Speaking at the audio launch of Magudam in Chennai, Vishal said there was no personal hatred behind his earlier comments and insisted that his affection for Udhayanidhi and his wife Kiruthiga remains unchanged.
Why Vishal Supported The Action
Vishal referred to Udhayanidhi’s recent legal trouble over an alleged double-entendre remark about Trisha while criticising Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay.
He argued that derogatory remarks about senior actresses and women in the film industry should not be tolerated and called for people who make such comments publicly to be punished.
“I Love Him, Come What May”
Despite his stance on the controversy, Vishal made it clear that his friendship with Udhayanidhi goes back decades.
He said his fondness for Udhayanidhi began during their student days and added that he continues to care deeply about both Udhayanidhi and Kiruthiga.
Vishal also said that even if he enters politics, any differences between them would remain healthy and would not turn into a serious personal conflict.
Past Differences Over Red Giant Movies
Vishal has previously criticised Udhayanidhi’s production and distribution company Red Giant Movies.
He had accused the company of unfair practices and alleged that it tried to influence theatre allocations during the releases of his films Enemy and Mark Antony.
However, Vishal now says those criticisms came from his own professional experiences and do not change his personal opinion of Udhayanidhi.
Their Friendship Goes Back To School
Vishal also shared memories from his younger days with Udhayanidhi.
He recalled the two of them riding triple on scooters in Chennai and being stopped by police, joking that Udhayanidhi was always reluctant to use his father MK Stalin’s name to get out of trouble.
Vishal and Udhayanidhi studied together at Don Bosco School in Chennai, while Vijay later studied with them at Loyola College.
Politics Could Change The Equation
The comments come at a time when Tamil cinema and politics are increasingly overlapping.
Vijay is now Chief Minister, while Udhayanidhi remains a major political figure and Vishal has also spoken about the possibility of entering politics.
Vishal, however, says political competition would not automatically mean personal hostility between old friends.

The episode shows how personal friendships, cinema rivalries and Tamil Nadu politics are becoming increasingly intertwined.
Vishal’s position is unusual but clear: he can publicly disagree with Udhayanidhi, support legal accountability and still maintain a personal friendship with him.
