Visitors Advised to Reschedule Plans

Tourists and Delhi residents planning to visit the Red Fort during the one-month closure period will have to reschedule their trips.

Public access is expected to resume after the conclusion of the Independence Day programme, subject to official instructions from the authorities.

Why the Red Fort Is Being Closed

The Red Fort serves as the main venue for India’s annual Independence Day celebrations. The Prime Minister hoists the national flag and addresses the nation from the fort’s ramparts every year on August 15.

Large-scale arrangements involving security personnel, government officials, invited guests and ceremonial teams are made several weeks ahead of the event. (India Today)

Month-Long Closure Not Unprecedented

The monument was also reportedly closed to visitors between July 15 and August 15 in 2025 to allow security agencies to prepare for the Independence Day programme.

In some previous years, however, public access was restricted for a shorter period closer to August 15. (Moneycontrol)

About the Red Fort

The Red Fort is one of Delhi’s most prominent historical monuments and a major tourist attraction. The Mughal-era fort is also a powerful national symbol because of its association with India’s Independence Day celebrations.

Visitors intending to travel to the monument are advised to check the latest official updates before finalising their plans.
