Paper Leak Crackdown: Modi Promises Tougher Law and Fast-Track Courts
As student protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2026 examination continue at Jantar Mantar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the Union Cabinet will consider stricter measures to combat examination paper leaks and fraud.
In a video message posted late on Thursday, July 23, Modi said further action against paper leaks would be discussed during the Cabinet meeting scheduled for Friday, July 24.
“More strict actions against paper leaks to come in tomorrow’s Cabinet,” the Prime Minister wrote while sharing the video message.
The announcement came amid growing pressure from students demanding accountability, transparency and reforms in the country’s examination system.
Fast-Track Courts Proposed
Earlier on Thursday, Modi announced that the government planned to establish fast-track courts to deal with examination paper-leak cases.
The proposed courts are intended to ensure speedy trials and stricter punishment for individuals, organised groups and officials found responsible for compromising competitive examinations.
The Prime Minister said paper leaks were a serious matter because they threatened the future of students and damaged public confidence in the examination system.
New Bill Expected
Modi said the proposed measures would be discussed by the Union Cabinet on Friday.
The government is also expected to begin efforts from Monday, July 27, to introduce and expedite legislation aimed at strengthening the legal framework against examination fraud, cheating and paper leaks.
Protests Continue at Jantar Mantar
Despite the government’s assurances, student-led demonstrations continued in Delhi, with protesters demanding stronger institutional reforms and accountability over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak.
The protesters have also raised concerns about the integrity of national competitive examinations and the effect repeated irregularities have on students and their families.
The Cabinet’s decisions are now being closely watched as students await details of the proposed punishments, fast-track judicial process and measures intended to prevent future examination leaks.
