I’ll Continue My Fast: Sonam Wangchuk Refuses to Back Down
Climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk has announced that he will continue his indefinite hunger strike, saying the government must establish accountability over alleged failures in India’s competitive examination system.
Wangchuk, whose fast entered its 23rd day on Monday, July 20, 2026, shared a brief message on social media stating, “I’ll continue my fast.” He expressed hope that the government would act against those responsible for the examination controversy and address the grievances raised by protesting students. Demands Accountability From Education Ministry
Wangchuk has been supporting a youth-led protest demanding accountability over examination paper leaks and other alleged irregularities affecting competitive-exam aspirants.
He has demanded the removal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, arguing that responsibility must be fixed for the alleged failures that disrupted the lives and careers of millions of students. (The Times of India)
Appeals for Peaceful Resolution
Wangchuk praised young protesters for remaining peaceful despite what he described as provocation. He appealed to the government and Delhi Police to allow students to present their grievances before Parliament and resolve the matter through dialogue. (Moneycontrol)

Health Concerns Continue
Wangchuk was moved to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on July 18 after doctors raised concerns about declining potassium levels and other complications associated with the prolonged fast.
Despite medical advice, he has reportedly continued to refuse intravenous fluids. Hospital authorities said his vital parameters remained stable, although some blood abnormalities persisted. (Reuters)
