What Is E85 Fuel?

E85 is a fuel blend containing up to 85% ethanol and 15% petrol.

The fuel is expected to be made available for flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs) that are specially designed to run on higher ethanol blends. (Moneycontrol)

₹20 Lower Price Compared to E20 Petrol

According to Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, E85 fuel could be priced approximately ₹20 less per litre than E20 petrol.

The move aims to encourage ethanol adoption while providing a more affordable fuel option for compatible vehicles. (News on AIR)

Ethanol Push Continues

The government has been promoting ethanol blending as part of its energy strategy, with E20 petrol already introduced across the country.

Puri has defended the ethanol programme, stating that the transition supports energy security, reduces dependence on fossil fuels and benefits domestic agriculture. (The Economic Times)

E85 Not for All Vehicles

Experts have noted that higher ethanol blends require vehicles designed specifically for such fuels.

Standard petrol vehicles may not be compatible with E85, making flex-fuel technology an important part of the rollout. (Moneycontrol)

The introduction of E85 could mark another major step in India’s journey towards alternative fuels and greener transportation.
