₹17 Lakh Goa Liquor Seized in Thane One Held

Authorities have seized Goa-manufactured liquor valued at approximately ₹17 lakh in Maharashtra’s Thane district and arrested one person in connection with the alleged illegal consignment.

Goa liquor worth ₹17 lakh seized in Thane, Maharashtra; one arrested, bottles shown on dark red-black poster.

The seizure forms part of continuing enforcement operations against liquor transported into Maharashtra without the necessary permits, payment of applicable excise duties or compliance with the state’s alcohol regulations.

Liquor Consignment Intercepted

According to the report, officials intercepted the consignment in Thane and discovered a substantial quantity of liquor manufactured in Goa.

The seized stock was allegedly being transported or stored in violation of Maharashtra’s excise regulations. One person was taken into custody, while the liquor and the vehicle or other materials connected with the consignment were reportedly confiscated.

Case Registered

Authorities have initiated legal proceedings against the arrested person under the relevant provisions governing the unauthorised transportation, possession and sale of alcohol in Maharashtra.

Investigators are expected to examine the origin of the consignment, its intended destination and whether additional people were involved in arranging its transportation or distribution.

Crackdown on Interstate Liquor Smuggling

Liquor prices and applicable excise duties differ across states, creating incentives for unauthorised interstate transportation. Products intended exclusively for sale in Goa cannot legally be sold in Maharashtra without the required permissions and compliance with the state’s excise framework.

Thane has witnessed several major liquor seizures in recent months. In June 2026, authorities intercepted Goa-labelled liquor worth more than ₹1.63 crore near Vadape village and arrested a truck driver under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act. (PTI News)

In another operation, the Thane excise department seized 73,440 bottles of Goa-made liquor valued at ₹1.89 crore from a vehicle travelling on the Panvel–Mumbra Highway. (Rediff)

The investigation into the latest ₹17 lakh seizure is continuing.
