1.7 Tonnes of Drugs Seized! 21 Face Charges in US Canada Bust
Twenty-one people, including more than a dozen suspects of Indian origin, are facing charges following a major cross-border drug-trafficking investigation involving law-enforcement agencies in Canada and the United States.
The investigation, called Project Bay, resulted in the seizure of nearly 1.7 tonnes of suspected illegal drugs, valued at approximately CA$140 million, or about US$99.4 million. Authorities described it as one of Ontario’s most significant drug seizures from a single investigation.
102 Charges Filed
According to the Ontario Provincial Police, the 21 accused collectively face 102 charges linked to alleged drug trafficking, importation and other offences.
The suspects include residents of Brampton, LaSalle, Kitchener, Barrie and Shelburne. The charges remain allegations and have not been proven in court.
Cocaine and Methamphetamine Seized
Authorities said the seized material included:
973 kilograms of suspected cocaine
660 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine
Other suspected illegal substances
17 firearms, including an anti-tank rifle
Police estimated that the drugs had a street value exceeding CA$139 million.
Commercial Transport Network Allegedly Used
Investigators allege that the trafficking operation used a broker-style system within the commercial transportation sector.
According to police, established logistics connections were allegedly used to recruit drivers to knowingly move illegal drugs across the US–Canada border while hiding them within legitimate supply chains.
Joint US–Canada Investigation
The investigation began in January 2025 when the Windsor Police Service opened a drug-trafficking probe. The Canada Border Services Agency joined the following month, followed by the Ontario Provincial Police as the investigation expanded.
US agencies, including Homeland Security Investigations and the Drug Enforcement Administration, assisted with the international aspects of the case. Toronto Police and Peel Regional Police also provided investigative support.
Search warrants were executed from late June 2026 onward, leading to the arrests and seizures.
