Scientists have discovered that the Himalayas are rising due to the collision of the Indian and Eurasian continental tectonic plates under the Himalayan mountain range. šļø
But researchers have recently discovered that a part of the Indian plate is 'delaminating' as it slides under the Eurasian plate. š Scientists believe that this process is likely to divide India geographically. š Over 60 million years of collision between the Indo-Eurasian tectonic plates shaped the Himalayas we see today. šļø An international team of geophysicists recently analyzed seismic waves beneath the Tibetan Plateau. š In this background, it has been said that the Indian plate is likely to break up as the Eurasian plate is sliding under it. š Until now, researchers have not conducted research on such a process behind the formation of continents. š But this new study will be the beginning of more innovations. The research was presented at the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union. š This will help in further understanding the origin of Himalayas. š It may also be helpful in sensing earthquake hazards in the region in the future. š ļø
