Why Newlyweds Are Shown Arundhati Star 🌟

In Hindu traditions, marriage is a sacred event that unites a man and woman in a holy bond. One significant ritual is showing the newlyweds the Arundhati star in the sky. Let's explore why this practice holds special meaning.

The Story of Arundhati 🌌

Arundhati is known for her unparalleled devotion to her husband, Sage Vashishta. Once, Sage Vashishta was in search of a bride. He arrived in a village where many women came to see him. He held some sand in his hand and asked if anyone could turn it into rice. None could, except for a beautiful young woman from a lower caste. She turned the sand into rice through her devotion and offered it to Vashishta, who was impressed and asked her to marry him. She agreed, provided her parents consented. With their blessing, Arundhati married Vashishta.

The Test of Devotion 🕯️

Vashishta once handed his kamandalu (water pot) to Arundhati and told her to watch it until he returned. She did so faithfully for years, without wavering. Meanwhile, the god of fire, Agni, fell in love with the wives of the seven sages (Sapta Rishis). However, he couldn't sway Arundhati due to her steadfast devotion to her husband. Agni's wife, Swaha Devi, tried to assume Arundhati's form but failed. This highlighted Arundhati's pure and unwavering loyalty.

Symbol of Ideal Couple 💑

Arundhati and Vashishta's bond became a symbol of ideal married life. Showing newlyweds the Arundhati star signifies the wish for a long, healthy, prosperous, and happy married life. It's believed that emulating this divine couple brings blessings and harmony.
