🚔 UP Police's Digital Crackdown: 25 Arrested, 40 Accounts Booked
In a significant move, the Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested 25 individuals and registered FIRs against 40 social media accounts accused of disseminating anti-national and misleading content related to Operation Sindoor. This operation, launched by the Indian Army, targeted terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following the Pahalgam terror attack.
The arrests span multiple districts, including Bulandshahr, Kanpur, Sambhal, Balrampur, Sant Kabir Nagar, and Kushinagar. A special team under Additional Director General (Law & Order) Amitabh Yash has been monitoring social media platforms round-the-clock to identify and act against such content.
🛑 Zero Tolerance for Misinformation
Acting on directives from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, DGP Prashant Kumar emphasized the importance of verifying information before sharing. The police have urged the public to use the official UP Police fact-checking handle @UPPViralCheck on X (formerly Twitter) to authenticate news, images, or videos.
"Posting or sharing misleading, false, or anti-national content on social media is a punishable offence," stated the police, highlighting the legal consequences of such actions.
🌐 Nationwide Actions Against Inflammatory Posts
The crackdown isn't limited to Uttar Pradesh. In Gujarat, 14 individuals have been booked for sharing anti-national content during Operation Sindoor. Similarly, in West Bengal, three people have been booked, and in Nagpur, a youth was arrested for allegedly posting objectionable content against the military operation.
🧠 MediaFx Opinion: Balancing Security and Freedom of Expression
While national security is paramount, it's crucial to ensure that actions taken do not infringe upon the fundamental right to freedom of expression. The working class, often the most affected by both terror attacks and stringent crackdowns, deserves transparent communication and the assurance that their voices won't be suppressed under the guise of national security.
