Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar has ordered all wine shops and bars in the city to remain closed on Holi as part of precautionary law-and-order measures.
The directive comes ahead of Holi celebrations, which traditionally see increased gatherings, late-night parties, and alcohol consumption. Officials have made it clear that strict action will be taken against any establishment violating the order.
In simple terms: no legal alcohol sales in the city on Holi day.
For Gen Z in Hyderabad — especially college students and young professionals — this changes party planning. Many are already discussing house parties, dry events, or early purchases before the closure kicks in.
Why this matters: Holi is one of the biggest social festival days for youth gatherings. Administrative restrictions directly impact nightlife, event organisers, and small bar businesses.
Subtle system angle: preventive shutdowns prioritise public safety and control, but small vendors and daily wage workers connected to hospitality often absorb the financial hit.
The order signals zero tolerance for disturbances — and this Holi, the city will be under close watch.
