Kolkata Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Kolkata in West Bengal, India. It was inaugurated in 1984, the first operational rapid transit system in India,

the second busiest and fourth longest metro network in India. The Kolkata Metro was initially planned in the 1920s, but construction began in the 1970s. The first underground extension from Bhawanipur (now Netaji Bhavan) to Esplanade was opened in 1984. Line 2 or East-West Corridor from Salt Lake Sector V to Phulbagan was commissioned in 2020. Line 3, or Joca -Esplanade Corridor (currently cut at Majerhat), opens in 2022. It is the fourth-longest operational metro network in India after Delhi Metro, Namma Metro and Hyderabad Metro. 🚇
