Dharmasthala Mass Burial Case Twist: SIT Arrests Whistleblower

TL;DR: The Dharmasthala mass burial case in Karnataka has turned upside down. The main complainant, once seen as a whistleblower, has now been arrested by the SIT for lying under oath. Excavations so far have found very little proof of the alleged mass murders and rapes. People are confused, leaders are politicising, and the real truth is still hidden.

Big Update from Dharmasthala

The SIT, set up to probe shocking claims of mass murders, rapes and secret burials at Dharmasthala, has arrested the very person who first made the allegations. The man, a former sanitation worker, earlier said he was forced to bury bodies between 1995 and 2014.

But SIT officers now say his documents and statements were inconsistent. He has been booked for perjury and sent to 10 days police custody.

The Allegations That Shook Karnataka

The complainant claimed that women, minors and rape victims were secretly buried in the forests around the temple town. His statements caused huge uproar, leading to the formation of a special investigation team.

Excavations were done at 13 sites. Out of these:

  • Only one site had partial skeletal remains.

  • Another had a skull with some bones.

  • Most other sites showed nothing at all.

This lack of evidence has created doubts about his story.

Politics Jumps In

As always, politics has entered the case faster than justice.

  • BJP leaders are saying this is a conspiracy against Hindu temples.

  • Progressive voices and rights activists are demanding that the probe continue seriously, because the allegations are too grave to ignore.

  • Local communities are split—some say this is a smear campaign, others believe poor workers do not come forward unless they are hiding something deeper.

The fight is no longer just about facts, but about faith, politics and perception.

What Happens Next?

With the complainant in custody, three possible scenarios are being discussed:

  1. Fresh investigations could bring out new evidence.

  2. The case may collapse if no further proof is found.

  3. People may demand a new SIT or even a judicial probe to ensure there is no cover-up.

The credibility of institutions is at stake.

MediaFx Take – From the People’s Angle

This case is a reminder of how powerful institutions protect themselves. Whether the complainant lied or not, the allegations of rape and murder cannot be dismissed. Poor workers and vulnerable groups rarely get justice when rich and influential forces are involved.

From the people’s side, what matters is fairness, accountability and dignity. The truth should not be buried—literally or politically.
